New industrial laws and the repeal of unfair laws

New industrial laws have been enacted for state government employees. The new legislation reverses radical changes enacted during the Newman LNP regime.

The Newman LNP regime imposed unfair laws that slashed public sector workers’ rights and protections, forced arbitrations, imposed an extreme bargaining and arbitration imbalance, reduced the independence of the industrial commission, required the industrial commission to consider the government’s ‘fiscal strategy’ when deciding wage increases, banned ‘interim wage increases’, increased red tape, increased use of lawyers, stripped awards and agreements, and destroyed job security.
