National Registration Implementation project

National Registration of Paramedics is now officially in the implementation phase with the Department of Health and Human Services (Victoria) assuming lead agency status for the policy implementation phase of the project. Exposure drafts of legislation for changes to the National Law are being developed by Queensland Health.

The Project Plan has been approved by the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council (AHMAC) and a budget has been allocated. 

The project has to specifically look at the scope of the profession; grandfathering arrangements; the governance arrangements and the questions around resolution of the inclusion or non-inclusion of the VET sector qualifications. In addition, the project will have to take into account recent recommendations on reform of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) and how these may apply to paramedicine. United Voice, as a member of NCAU, will be part of a reference group made up of key stakeholders tasked with driving this project.
