Minister travels to Cairns for ramping roundtable

It’s taken a lot of hard work, but our concerns about ramping at Cairns Hospital are finally being taken seriously by Health Minister Cameron Dick.

Mr Dick flew into Cairns for a roundtable discussion this week; meeting with United Voice State Councillors Neil Noble and Jennifer Miran, representatives from other health sector unions as well as hospital management.

At the meeting, the Minister promised $360,000 to fund a LARU, providing 2.8 additional FTE paramedic positions to attend low-level cases.

We welcome that commitment, but the buck now stops with the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS), who were put on notice that they need to fix the systemic problems that are keeping our paramedics on the ramp for hours.
