Budget Impact on Ambulance Services

There was some bad news in the Federal Budget including an effective cut of $11.8 billion from the Queensland health budget over the next decade, with cuts expected from 2017-18.

The Abbott Government’s second budget locked in cuts to the significant health funding committed by the previous federal Labor Government.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has reiterated that no jobs will be lost in Queensland as a result of Federal Budget cuts in the sector, but has not been able to rule out cuts to service delivery from hospital and health services state-wide. This can clearly have an impact on ambulance services.

This message was also delivered by Health Minister Cameron Dick to your Ambulance State Council. Mr Dick said even the AMA said the biggest threat to health care was the cuts to state budgets.

Messages will be compiled into an ad that will run in the Prime Minister’s local newspaper. We’ll also make sure he gets a hand-delivered version so he can’t miss it.
